Thesis Title: A Transverse Self: Montaigne and His Philosophers
About
My research interests are in the intellectual and cultural history of the French 16th and 17th centuries, especially from the 1550s-1680s. My book project, an extension of my thesis, explores the lives of the philosophers in Montaigne's Essais. In my current research I am exploring the origins of French opera in their relationship to literature, especially the pastoral genre. In my current teaching, I am looking at issues of taboo and obscenity in major authors of the French 16th and 17th centuries. I also teach French 1,2 and French 22.
