My current project examines médersas, so-called "Franco-Muslim" schools, and their role in Muslim communities in Algeria, Mauritania, Mali, Senegal, and Chad. I have received funding for this research from the Fulbright-Hays program, the Social Science Research Council, and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, among other organizations. In 2018, I received my Ph.D. in African History from UCLA. I am currently the Westergaard Postdoctoral Fellow in the History Department at Pomona College.edit
